Tarta sees the light

It’s been a while since our last post, but we just wanted to let our fans know that in these troubling times we are feeling particularly grateful to have a safe and supporting home. Not sure if the schools in NYC plan to open, but we surely do not envy our Greek feline friends. Not only because of the recent decision of the Greek ministry to abolish art and music classes from the last few years in secondary education. Then the sciences: physics books are spreading fake news! Screen Shot 2020-06-21 at 12.27.14 PM

Not surprised at all. First, they started with a reform of the religious education class to two times a week, where the only religion taught is the Greek Orthodox – exempt students will attend a class on ethics, because apparently that’s the counterpoint to religion.

In other words, back to the middle ages fur friends! Alas, one can only hope that we go further back to a time where my kind was properly treated.

You can take the cat out of the taverna…

P.S. Here’s Spike’s reaction about the current situation in Greece. His kind would definitely not fly there…

All cool cats adopt…

This coming Christmas do yourself a favor and adopt someone equally useless like my sister, Tarta; she contributes nothing, yet she still deserves a plate of food and a warm home.

On the other hand, here’s me lounging on a hot pad after a rough day…

If you cannot adopt a furry thing, please consider donating a little something. All donations made to this wonderful organization led by extraordinary women will be much appreciated by all two and four legged creatures alike, paw to heart: https://www.frontizofs.gr/donate/

A Purrwell to Arms

It’s tough raising a male chauvinist cat, but sometimes it’s got its perks too. For my nameday, Spike read Tarta and me a passage from his favorite Bukowski book.

Then, I had kimchi ramen and he passed out, right after he wrote a paragraph for a short story he is working on, based on another of his drunk literary heroes. Tequil’ a Mockingbird is the working title. Coming out soon, in both hardcover and paperback, for all of you erudite cats out there.

Hoppy International Meow Day

It’s International Meow Day today, I swear – cross my paws! Fur this reason, here is a pawst dedicated to all the cats who make this planet even fluffier and cuter.

Most impawtantly, me and my sister Tarta, being all meowsical and silly:

American as apple pie

In celebration of mama’s new citizenship status I am selecting one of our favorite songs from American IVIt’s almost impawssible to watch the music video without tearing up; a little context: the original song by Nine Inch Nails was already a hit and Trent Reznor(💖)was initially hesitant to have Cash cover it–he feared it would come out gimmicky. However, the great Rick Rubin pushed and produced it along with the entire anthology of American Recordings and the great Unearthed boxset. The music video features Cash in his home in Nashville and at museum (The House of Cash). His health visibly deteriorated and June who is featured here would die three months later. After seven months, Johnny would follow her. Most of the house also burned down in 2007.

On other news, RIP to David Berman. The man behind Silver Jews and Purple Mountains. To keep with the theme of this post, here’s Tennessee for you; “you’re the only ten I see……”

On a pawsitive note, things with Tarta and me are going great and this morning we had our first meal together (before I jumped on her…)

A crack in everything…

Free entrance today at The Jewish Museum. Why care? Because until September 8th there is an exhibit dedicated to this semitic king whom Spike was named after.

The exhibit features themes inspired by Leonard’s life including an audio installation of him reading his poetry, a visual of his drawings, and video installations made from his concerts and interviews.

On the third floor there’s some really cool artwork inspired by Jewish culture. In the basement, there’s bagels and other delicacies by Russ & Daughters. Mazel!

Noam deserves his own space 💖

A couple of years ago I tracked down his street in Hydra. The second pic is from the taverna next to Bill’s Bar, which some might remember from another favorite, Night Comes On.

Now the crickets are singing, the vesper bells ringing
The cat’s curled asleep in his chair
I’ll go down to Bill’s Bar, I can make it that far
And I’ll see if my friends are still there

Male Purrvilege

I’ve mentioned a few times before how problematic Spike’s behavior is: here, here and here. I thought that his becoming a big brother and getting to live with a girl other than his mama would change his cattitude. But no. Every chance he gets he tries to invade her space:

Comes to show that someone has not read the Feminist Bible. No means no, Spike. We live in troubled times, so come September he will be volunteering, attending camp with all woke kitties, and socializing with the right crew.

Tarta, in the meantime, will explore life in cosmopolitan NYC. In the rough streets of Thessaloniki she was not encouraged to express her fierce PAWsona, but luckily here there’s an outlet, and an audience. Watch out world – here comes the paw of resistance!
